In November, we took a trip to Paris.
First, we went to see Barbie, the movie released in 2023. This movie was chosen because it was related to the theme of the chapter we were studying and we actually talked about it when we came back to class, notably to debate whether Barbie could be regarded as a feminist movie or not.
After a picnic at Montmartre, we went to the 13th arrondissement of Paris for a guided walking street art tour of the area.
We saw a lot of works showing how important positioning is to understand graffiti itself of course or to get the real meaning artists want to convey throughout their work.
We also learnt about how long it takes to make one piece of graffiti, depending on the size of it, the details put on it but also the weather, a key element !
We also learnt that the graffiti is supervised by the district’s leaders, which means they have the power to invite many well-known artists from many countries such as BToy from Barcelona, Faile, a duo from Brooklyn... but also French artists like Bom.K.
I found this trip very educative and the works we saw were massive and well-painted with great attention to detail.
We had a great time despite the rain that kept falling all day long !
